If you want you map to have character, normal stairs just don't cut it, so why not build a winding spiral staircase for a change?

Sounds difficult but it is quite easy if you know how.

First you need the place where you want your staircase to be. Winding staircases don't just stand somewhere in the middle of a map, so try to find corner or a shaft or something like that.

When you have found your location you'll need to create an arch-brush (in the top-view) by selecting the block-tool and then switching to the arch-tool:

Your brush should have dimensions of about 128 x 128 x 12 units (Width x Depth x Height). So your character can walk over them without any problems.

If you look at the Dimensions tutorial, you will see that you can not walk over steps greater than 16 units high. That is why I have chosen 12 units.

After pressing enter this window should appear:


Arch Properties
Apply these settings:
Number of sides - stands for your amount of stairs
Wall width - stands for the width of your stairs (surprise :-)
Add height - you can shortcut the scaling/moving of the single stairs: Just add height of 12 (height of the stairs) and your staircase will be complete, but the way described below is much better to get a basic understanding of how it works.
(Note: the more stairs you want, the more narrow they get and the more overall height you can achieve)

After creating the arch you will have to ungroup it (split all the stairs from one another) by selecting the brush and pressing CTRL+U. It should look like this:


Arched Brush
Choose your starting brush, then Select the brush next to it by clicking on it. Move this brush so that the bottom of it is inline with the top of your starting brush. Then select the next brush and do the same, keep going till you run out of brushes.

It should now look like this:


Spiral Brush
In my example the staircase has 12 stairs, each with a height of 12 units and a overall height of 144 units (Formula: amount of stairs x height of the stairs = overall height).

That's about all you need to do for winding stairs, but it is a good idea to enclose the staircase to avoid leaks, and make it look better. To do this you'll have to place a wall around the stairs.

Just create another arch-brush as described above but scale it a little bit bigger: If you want to have a wall width of 8 for example, you'll have to add 16 (2 x 8 on the width and 16 on the depth which makes a brush of 144 x 144 units.

In the appearing arch-properties window just apply this:

Now you'll have to increase this new arch in height (should now look like this):

And don`t forget the doors :-)

The only thing left to do is place the stair textures:

Browse for some nice texture and apply it to the stairs. When adjusting the textures try this:

You're weird, stop it. Sadly BSP files are "binary space partition files" are binary files, not easily-editable text files. Look, why do you want people to play this map on one server only? Besides, you're also placing quite a lot on people *liking* your map enough. You've just started, I can't see it being that likely.


Sadly how can you say that lol. you do not even know me... and you and yes i know there binary space lol fail but you could use a plugin where it coded for the map to run. as you can see in what i uploaded...

just me there is a way and i figured it out easy and simple here an rmf of the map where as soon as you join a team it crashes ur cs and the only way of fixing that is if your running .amxx file that removes that entity who it does crash

Only the map who created the map knows what entity to remove to fix it

1)How do i make a door that opens by a button?

The funny thing is when im in spectator and let the camera cycle though they work but when i go to the func_button it works for the first 2 cameras then stops on the second one... I just gotta figure this out it brothers me lol...

a jailbreak map its really cool with the cameras and all I did check the names and 3 of them work but when i added to more it just goes from camera one to camera 2 to camera 3 back to camera and NOT to the other to new cameras add i don't know why i check the properties like 60 times :/

Well i had 3 cameras and they work perfectly but when i added 2 more cameras my cameras do not want to work :[
Its hard to explain could i just upload my rmf file and could some take a look at thoses entities?

func_door_rotating (the one i think you will use)
1) Create a hinge by using the texture Called (origin)
2) Set the properties to your liking
3) Pitch Yaw Roll (Y Z X) Chooses your direction

Y == (swings up and down)
Z == (back and forth)
X == (side to side)

Normal Door
Y == 0
Z == 0
X == 0

I finally finish my map but its a jailbreak map and my computer is really really old and sucks for compiling maps could someone help me compile my map this will be its finish out look.

Not sure how to do this because its the first time using models and when i load my map i can walk right though them.

okay i have a trigger_teleport and i have an info_teleport_destination both the same name but it doesn't teleport to the place i set it at. I do not know why it does that ill post a screen shot if that helps

ok i put light environment on my map but its still dark and my settings are 255 255 255 200 for color then the rest default and i have a sky texture but when i go in my map its really dark :[

Its could be that you have way to my entities on your map and that would explain why your gun disappears and some of your entities The engine for cs 1.6 is not that powerful to handle so many entities.

and thats why its different for each server the more powerful the server the more entities will show up thats why its different for each server.


Try removing some entities from your map to see if that helps

I have it set up like that and the button works fine... And When map loads the music doesn't Start, But when a new round starts on the map the music will start playing automatically Anyone know how to Fix this So it will not play on next round automatically
