So, my good friend Barack Obama will be sending me a check on this upcoming Monday, and I've decided to build a Russian supercomputer and become an 31337 H4X02!
So anyway, I came up with a build that I'm satisfied with, but I'd like some other opinions before I make any final decisions. Actually, I'd just like to show off how large my e-pen is at the moment. So yeah, here's my build: Linkity split

Looks pretty good over all.
Things I don't totally like (really not a huge deal):
• 3 sticks of RAM in a mobo with 4 slots & dual channel.
• 750w power is too much watts. Unless you're going to get another GPU (don't). Save $40 and get a 550w.

Also if I were you I'd get an external DVD/whatever drive instead since I really only use it for OS install and then tuck it away somewhere. And not look at it no more.

Hehe... I posted this on another forum, and someone else mentioned the RAM thing too... I never knew about this 
So basically what I decided to do, is to just get two 4GB sticks for the moment (that's 8GB total if you don't feel like doing simple math or are an idiot), and will buy another 8GB later on (to total 16GB).
If you don't mind, could you clear up one thing for me...
The way the other guy explained it, it'll be bad if I have 3 sticks, but it'll be okay if I have 4. Is this correct?
And, I just remembered I already have a DVD burner in the tower I currently have, so I probably won't buy the one in my list.
And... even if I don't NEED the extra wattage... just look how sexy that PSU is man. It matches the rest of my parts perfectly (expect for the stupid blue MB) 
But nah, I'll definitely look around for a lower wattage one, thanks for the tip :D

I am pissed off beyond belief right now...
The funds for this build were going to be coming from the leftover grant money I was supposed to get from college. I just found out today, a month after the semester started, that apparently the college has lost some of my papers, which makes me ineligible for financial aid. So now, instead of me recieving $7xx, I now owe the college $733.
It's closed today, so I can't go in and talk to anyone about it, but imma raise hell tomorrow and get to the bottom of this. They'd better get it sorted out, but if they don't, it looks like I won't be getting this comp.

Well, I went in and talked to them today, and they said I can apply for a grant up until pretty much the end of the semester, which really surprised me. I figured that you'd have to do it before the drop date, but apparently not.
So, they said I should still be able to get my grant, but it's going to be 3-4 weeks before I see any money.
So I should hopefully be able to still build my pwnzors 1337 h4x1n6 m4ch1n3, I'll just have to wait a month.

So I was looking on NewEgg and noticed that the graphics card I had originally planned on getting is temporarily out of stock, so I started looking around at some other ones, and I ran into a dillema.
nVidia or AMD?
Cuz, the one I wanted before was nVidia, but I found this one: link
And it's pretty sexy as well.
So what's your guys' opinion... should I go with an nVidia or an AMD GPU?

Also, AMD offers Dirt 3 for free, which I'd actually play.
But I'm not gonna buy a card based on the free game that comes with it. I'm thinkin' about getting this one: jizz

I meant to order an aftermarket CPU cooler, but forgot to, so imma just buy one from a local computer store.

Well, I actually did quite a bit of research into SSDs. To be honest, I found that they're really not THAT much faster than a 7200rpm or 10000rpm HDD. I mean, they are a definitely SOMEWHAT faster, but as DR pointed out, they're really not cost efficient.
Now, with that being said... I do plan to to add an SSD in the future... but not only one of them... TWO... in a raid 0

Eh, I have one. I would rate it's effect on my computer's speed at doing most anything as ASTRONOMICAL. I timed it, and it loads Sims 2 36 times faster. Most other things aren't measurable because they install/load so quickly I can't properly time it.

Well, I'll be getting some in the future, I just don't have the money for it right now (Actually, I do... I'd just rather spend it on a wheel/pedal set for playing dirt 3 with :D)

Oh, I never did post in here saying I got my build done.
It's pretty sexy... and has run everything I've thrown at it with no problems.
I also bought a Logitech Driving Force GT wheel/pedal set, and I got Dirt 3 for free with my card, so I've been playing that quite a bit... it's epic.
