# how to create fire ??

first i wanna thank all who helped and superjer in my past post. but now i wanna put fire in my map i have read tutorials but for some reason it dont work the fire is not there. how do i get the fire to show.i was using the sprite thing. but is the a way to get a env.fire some how...?

p.s. does ne one know where to download diff sky textures plese show a link...ty

I've never made fire but you probably have the wrong settings in your sprite entity. What filename did you enter for the sprite?

Only place I know to get environment maps is The Wadfather

awsome thanks. been off for awhile but got another question.... how can i put these into wad files that actually work. i use wally for wad formatting but when i use the textures they dont show up.. any ideas

Make sure that they are square with the sides powers of two, eg 8x8, 16x16 and so on.

I used to say that it's powers of 2, but it needs to be multiplications of 16. (16, 32, 48, 64, 80...)
And it doesn't have to square either; 16x96 is just fine. Ugly, but fine.

ok i thought all i had to do was resize my .bmp image of a sky. but i am wrong can any one help me by explaining what is supposed to be a x16

The size of your texture needs to be multiplications of 16. For example: 16x32 pixels; 96x96 pixels...

Are you trying to make a custom sky? That's completly different from making a standard texture!

Skies are either .bmp or .tga and are NOT put in wad. I'm not sure about the size but 256*256 is the most common size. They goes into the gfx/env-folder. You need six different pictures for one sky, all pictures have a suffix to tell the game where in the sky they're going to be placed. This suffix consists of two letters in the end of the name, which are: bk, dn, ft, lf, rt, up. So if I made a sky called mysky i would name the six pictures:

myskybk, myskydn, myskyft, myskylf, myskyrt, myskyup

and place them in the env-folder. Then just go into Hammer and add the sky mysky in the map properties.

ok sorry bout this next one but where is the gfx folder located???? i checked where i installed hammer but it does not exist.?.? do i have to create it first???

It's where your game is installed, eg: C:\Program\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\xxxxx\counter-strike\cstrike\gfx\env
