What would you pay for a domain?

So, probably about a year ago, I was thinking of different domain names that would be awesome to have for a site. There were two that I came up with that I really wanted, but both were taken. Those urls were 'malicio.us' and 'infectio.us', but both of them were already taken. I looked at malicio.us, and its some photography website where a guy is selling his photos, so he's not gonna sell it. But then I took a look at infectio.us, and got a blank white page... So I did a who.is search and got the guys info, and sent him a message asking if he'd be interested in selling it. He said make an offer, I offered $30, and he laughed at me and pretty much told me to fuck off.

So here I am a year later and I'm considering buying it again, but I'm not sure how much would be reasonable to pay. He doesn't use the domain, and according to dnscoop.com the domain is worth $0.
So, how much do you guys think would be a reasonable amount for him to be wanting, and whats the most you'd pay to have an awesome domain like that?

Well, a .us domain on godaddy is 10 bucks, and thats where he purchased the domain from... so he's gonna want more than that for it.

I reckon that he thinks the domain is worth a fair amount on the basis that it spells infectious. Which is a word. You will find that some domains are worth more than others, even if websites don't necessarily say so. www.proflat.co.uk is like £15 for two years, for instance. Everyone stares when you walk in the room, they stare when you go....

Well any .us domain from godaddy is normally $10 (there ahving a sale where they are $5 right now). But since this guy already bought it, he really can charge whatever he wants for it... even a million dolalrs if he thinks its worth it xD

Pretty much, though it's not going to make him any money if he can't sell it for more. I suppose, all you need to do is keep making low offers while he has it, because if no-one else is buying then he has the option of selling to you or keeping it for himself. Assuming, like I said, that no-one else makes an offer. Everyone stares when you walk in the room, they stare when you go....

Yeah, I guess thats what I'll do. And, eh's had it for at least a year (some site said he's had it since 2002, so yeah...)

Honestly, I'd prolly pay him like $100 for it if he'd take it, but I think thats way overpriced.

I wouldn't expect to get any domain for less than $500 if it is already registered and you are buying it from a human. E.g. I paid $500 for mcdiddys.com in a similar situation.

If you are getting it on an automated service, then probably $15 is the lowest. E.g. I paid $15 for damnfun.com on TDNAM.

It always depends on the name, and how much the owner thinks it is worth. Some domains are worth millions.

You can never have enough domains

But for real SJ, if you're gonna be spending $500+ on multiple domains, you might as well buy your license to sell domains. Then you can sell me domains for cheap (or free *cough cough*) and start up a site to sell them too.
