Recreating an Aerial Duel Over Guadalcanal, Mystery on Board, by Neil Genzlinger This article is a review of the PBS series "Secrets of the Dead", and in particular an episode that deals with a dogfight between American James Southerland and Japanese Saburo Sakai, and how each survived against the odds. The series normally explores mysteries surrounding events that took human lives, and why lives were lost. In this episode, it explores why and how the two pilots survived. Sakai and Southerland were both hotshot pilots, flying a Zero and a Wildcat, respectively. Mr. Southerland was shot down, survived the landing, and trecked through the jungle to eventually find some friendly villagers. Mr. Sakai was shot in the head, yet somehow managed to fly his Zero back to his base 500 miles away. The program largely deals with trying to learn why Mr. Southerland did not shoot down his opponent when he had the chance. The reviewer seems to have really liked the program, and says "For those who like a good war story, or even for those who don't, it's bracing stuff." Dreamlike Patterns, Delicate And Slow, by Roslyn Sulcas. A dance review of Pilgrimage. This is an abstract, almost surreal, piece that evokes a dreamlike quality.
