WAY MORE THAN YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SPLATTER MARIO
by SuperJer

This file contains stuff about Splatter Mario that no one should care about. I will add text to it as I build the game. Turn Word Wrap on if you haven't.

The extension .jmm stands for Jer's Mario Map format. If you want to see its true beauty, open a .jmm in EDIT [Start > Run > type "edit" and press enter]. Make sure you check Open Binary in the Open window to view the file in its perfect splendor.

Ever notice how in edit mode, pressing F8 will reset all the blocks that got destroyed even though you can draw/erase them in real time? That's because a loaded Splatter Mario map has lots of layers:

 Back
 Middle
 Front
 Clip
 Type
 Info
 IdealMiddle
 IdealClip

When you break a block, the game removes it from the middle layer and the clip layer. But don't worry Timmy, it's also stored in the Ideal layers. When you push F8 the ideal layers get copied into the on-screen layers.

Ever wonder where the Splatter Mario sounds came from? Well, I recorded them myself - here's a list of what you're really listening to:

 File Action Source

bat1.wav	bat strikes something	me saying Pgh! and hitting myself
bop1.wav	shell hits hard me saying Plookit!
bump1.wav	solid is hit me bumping the table
coin1.wav	Mario getting a coin	me playing really high guitar chord
crack1.wav	bat breaks one of those plastic chip bag clamps
explode1.wav	Mario explodes me going Phlsjsh! real fast
grow1.wav	Mario grows me going Grrrrrr! and rolling the r
hit1.wav	brick block breaks	me going Poit!
juice1.wav	Mario liquifies me sort of whistling
shrink1.wav	Mario shrinks me going Grr-grr-grr! rolling the r
splat1.wav	blood drop hits floor	me going Pwith! quickly
sprout1.wav	item comes out of box	bumping something and saying Vvvvt!
squish1.wav	goomba flattens me going Phlsjsh! kinda slow

Why are the red koopas orange? Originally they were red, but too much stuff is red in the game so I changed them to orange. I tried lots of colors, blue, yellow, purple... orange looked the best. If you really hate it send me hatemail.

Mario can't run. It would be very easy to make Mario run, but because of problems with my clipping code, Mario would be likely to go right through walls and stuff. Really fast moving shells sometimes do go through solids - especially at the upper corners. I'm working on this problem.
