This isn't something I discovered recently. Shut up. I discovered this a few months ago while watching Ghost Hound, which isn't as good as it should be because shit falls apart at the end and everyone for some damned reason stops caring about the main storyline.
Mayumi Kojima is like Yoko Kanno if Yoko Kanno sang all the time and if instead of knowing all of American music, she only knew jazz. Also she's real, but hardly anyone knows about her even in Japan and if you do you're pretty much a hipster. I qualify for hipster dual citizenship and you can go to hell.
But first, listen to Poltergeist.

I recently discovered "The Black Lips". Because I heard their song "Mordern Art" and liked it, I bought their album. It is actually the only really good song on there at first listen...
The joys of using FireFox on mobile: "Click here to download plugin" repeated many times across a page.
What mobile platform are you on?
What about Opera or perhaps SkyFire? I don't think SkyFire is free like it was when I was running it on WinMo6.5 a few years back, but AFAIK it's still one of the best ways to enjoy Flash content on an iOS device.

Do these two have anything in common?

They are both bands which play music, though in Captain Beefheart's case, the distinction might be generous. I like him, but Trout Mask Replica is just as unlistenable today as it was forty years ago.

Ry Cooder is the link between Buena Vista & Captain Beefheart, he played with both. In fact the Buena Vista album came about when Ry Cooder went to Cuba to work with a producer there, with musicians from Africa. The African musicians weren't able to get into Cuba, so they decided to record something just with 'local musicians' in Havana, and the musical director for the project which had just fallen through happened to know people from the club.
